Police have only managed to arrest one of the five men who robbed a Vodacom shop in KwaZulu-Natal on February 1 at around 9:20AM.
Vodacom and the police are asking the public to notify them with any information about the four assailants who managed to get away with a few cellphones, cash, a bag, and other items.
The amounts are undisclosed.
The incident unfolded at the Vodacom branch at Market Plaza in KwaDukuza (previously Stanger Market Plaza), with CCTV footage showing one of the suspects holding a gun.
In the video, you can see one of the robbers bring out his gun, with the others around him gesturing and urging the Vodacom staff members to go to the back room.
It looks like an unaware customer walks in later when the store is empty, only to also be pushed to the back.
Then, another suspect is seen rummaging through everything and taking what he pleases before walking out casually.
Watch the moment unfold, with the man in the brown shirt at the desk producing a weapon:
What occurred in the back room has not been said, although, a Vodacom spokesperson via IOL confirmed that nobody was injured during the robbery.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed that a “40-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for robbery”.
That suspect has already appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court twice.
The four other suspects who posed as customers before robbing the store are still at large.
Apparently, all the staff members subjected to the robbery were taken for trauma counselling, too.
