“One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.”
That’s the inscription on the One Ring, which eventually came Bilbo Baggins’ way before passed on to Frodo.
You know the story, and you’ve likely heard that a prequel series to The Lord of the Rings is on its way.
Amazon Prime chose the Super Bowl to finally lift the lid on its long-awaited series, The Rings of Power, with a minute-long teaser trailer.
After months of throwing out tiny scraps, reports Gizmodo, we have our first look at Amazon’s reimagining:
Set during the Second Age of Middle-Earth—thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, which take place at the climax of the Third Age—The Rings of Power introduces us to a world on the precipice of returned evils, as the Dark Lord Sauron plots to deceive the Elves into helping him forge the titular Rings of Power, the magical trinkets he plans to spread across the rulers of the races of Middle-Earth, and through them dominate their will with a secret ring, binding them all together.
The trailer gives a few glimpses at characters we know from the books and films—most notably Morfydd Clark and Robert Aramayo, who are playing younger versions of the long-lived elves Galadriel and Elrond—as well as some of the new characters created for the show…
These include the Silvan Arondir, played by Ismael Cruz Cruz Córdova, and the Khazad-dûm princess Disa, played by Sophia Nomvete.
Let’s get our first glimpse:
Rest assured it will be better than the Soviet version of The Lord of the Rings.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will stream on Prime Video from September 2.
