There’s A Lot Of Talk About This Odd Cape Town CBD Rental

Apartments come with a bed and a shower. That's pretty much standard, I think we can agree. But being able to lie in bed and turn on the shower? Yeah, that's unusual.

Apartments come with a bed and a shower.

That’s pretty much standard, I think we can agree.

But being able to lie in bed and turn on the shower? Yeah, that’s unusual.

This story begins with a tweet sent out yesterday afternoon which piqued my interest:

Call me old school but I prefer my shower inside the bathroom.

Rather than coming with a ridiculous sales price (hello, Rondebosch fixer-upper), this one-bedroom apartment is listed on Property24 for rent for R9 500 a month.

There’s no such thing as bad publicity (there is) so let’s have a look around:

FURNISHED – minimum 12 month lease.

Renovated apartment located in Market House. Open plan dining and living room.

Kitchen fitted with a dishwasher, washing machinr/tumble dryer combo and airconditioning.

Furnished, sure, but you may want to bring along a few things of your own to make it a little more homely.

Now for the centrepiece, described as an “Ensuite bathroom with a shower”:

I mean…

The light right above the mattress and directly in your face is a nice touch.

There’s also the “Bedroom with a built-in bed fitted onto a lofted cupboard”:

Perfect for when Harry Potter pops past for a sleepover.

The apartment on Shortmarket Street, in the heart of the Cape Town CBD, doesn’t come with a parking space.

Some of the jokes write themselves:

R9 500 a month in the CBD sure doesn’t get you what it used to.
