The song says we shouldn’t talk about Bruno, but we are going to anyway.
At the moment, the No. 1 song on America’s Billboard Hot 100 chart is not a pop tune by a big name such as Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, or even Bruno Mars for that matter.
Rather, unexpectedly, the top song is a catchy tune from the animated Disney movie Encanto.
According to Billboard, ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, has had more than 34 million streams, going way out in front of Adele’s ‘Easy On Me’, which was sitting top.
Remarkably, it is also the first Disney song to reach the chart’s peak since ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin in 1993, per CNN.
Even the Oscar-winning tune ‘Let It Go’ from Disney’s Frozen didn’t get to the zenith in 2014, only managing a spot at No. 5 on the chart.
This is the jam:
I have noticed how folks all over TikTok and the like have been raving about the music in this movie, but it is still somewhat surprising that this song is this popular.
The movie does look incredibly heart-warming and thrilling. Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, Encanto premiered last November.
It tells the tale of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live in a wondrous, charming place called an Encanto, per the official synopsis.
Each child has been blessed with a magic gift unique to them – each child except Mirabel. But when the family’s home is threatened, Mirabel may be their only hope.
Mirabel’s uncle Bruno has the power to see the future, but as you can tell by the song, the family would really rather not mention it.
Give the trailer a quick peek:
There is some talk at Billboard that the tune won’t be getting a not at the Oscars, though.
