The Queen, at 95 years of age, is still out there breaking a few records.
Her Majesty is set to become the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, an accolade marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms, and the Commonwealth.
The party for this record-breaking time spent on the throne is also set to break a few records, with a picnic fit for…well, royalty, that’s for sure.
Events to celebrate the unprecedented anniversary will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four-day UK bank holiday weekend from June 2 to June 5.
June 5, National Thank You Day, will mark the biggest day to celebrate the Queen’s historic milestone, with a lunchtime picnic in Windsor.
The Windsor Big Lunch, per The Telegraph, is expected to become the longest ever held, breaking a record set in 2019 in Memphis, Tennessee at the May International Festival.
On that occasion, there was a 400-metre long picnic table for everyone to come and celebrate.
The organiser of this party, Lisa Hunter, said that this time, the picnic will involve a 500-metre-long table:
She said: “We’re trying to encourage people to come together on the 5th June to say thank you to the Queen but also to neighbours, friends and people who have made a difference over the last two years.
“About 500m of picnic tables is what we’re aiming for, which works out to 1 600-and-a-few people. That’s the aim – if we can make it a bit longer then that’s fantastic, but that’s the minimum.
“The idea is for everyone in the community from all walks of life to come together in a celebration.”
This is what the street party held to commemorate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire, looked like for reference:
This year’s National Thank You Day, first held last year to celebrate communities helping each other during the pandemic, is being timed to be part of the Jubilee celebrations.
The other events being held across the country are expected to be 10 million people strong, with this occasion being bigger than celebrations for the 1977 Silver Jubilee and the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
In what might also be the biggest British bake off, bakers are being asked to invent a new pudding for the Queen.
The hope is that a new national dish gets created, adding to the popularity of Coronation Chicken, made to mark the Queen’s 1953 coronation.
Meanwhile, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be touring the Caribbean to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Seems like it will be a whale of a time for folks in the UK from the beginning of June.
