The major saving grace here is that the Boeing 777 which had a door ripped from its fuselage had already safely touched down at Cape Town International Airport.
Having flown into Cape Town from London Heathrow yesterday, the aircraft was about to be towed to a remote stand and parked when things took a turn for the worse.
According to The Independent, the Boeing 777 was “pushed back from the stand with the airbridge still attached to the “L2” door”.
Essentially, technicians forgot that the door was still attached to the walkway and I’m not sure the damage to the 21-year-old plane will “buffer right out”:

In fact, the plane was scheduled to perform flight BA42 from Cape Town to London Heathrow later in the day but the flight was subsequently cancelled:
The online flight status read-out from British Airways says only: “We’re very sorry, this flight has been cancelled.”
Most passengers were accommodated on a second British Airways 777 service, BA56, which was held for two hours beyond its scheduled time.
Around 10 per cent of the other passengers were moved to alternative airlines.
I guess as long as you get there in the end.
Beats having your flight cancelled at the last minute because Boris and his pals had a panic attack regarding the Omicron variant.
