In September last year, 33-year-old Martin Kennedy was admitted to the Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital for bipolar disorder.
On Sunday, October 3, after spending around a week in the high care unit, his parents were informed Martin had been attacked.
However, details were scarce and they were later called to Valkenberg to meet with the staff.
At this point, the story takes a very dark turn and a criminal investigation was initiated.
This via the Carte Blanche write-up:
What happened in the final days and hours of Martin Kennedy’s life? A fit and physically strong young man, Kennedy suffered a psychiatric breakdown and was admitted to a specialised psychiatric hospital in Cape Town.
Within weeks of his hospitalisation, Kennedy was dead – allegedly at the hands of a fellow patient. But why has the family been closed out of the ongoing investigation?
His parents want and deserve answers, which have been anything but forthcoming.
