Call yourself MrBeast and pit people against each other for prizes on YouTube and then maybe you, too, will have an excellent financial year.
We were speaking about Jimmy Donaldson, AKA MrBeast, AKA ‘the Oprah of YouTube’, during the exact moment that he was making some serious dosh.
According to new estimates by Forbes, MrBeast earned $54 million in 2021 (that’s around R830 million), the most any YouTuber has ever made in a single year.
That would be somewhat thanks to his most popular video of all time, the ‘$456 000 Squid Game In Real Life!’ video, complete with a recreation of the creepy red light/green light doll.
In true MrBeast style, nobody was killed and everyone left with some money – some as much as $446 000 (R6,8 million).
His YouTube channel currently has more than 88 million subscribers, having only had 50 million subscribers at the start of 2021, reported Business Insider.
He is also ranked as the eighth most subscribed-to channel on YouTube and the third-largest in the United States.
Mind you, he does also head a 50-employee company that last year launched MrBeast Burger, a virtual restaurant chain, and encompasses Beast Interactive Games, reported Variety:
Coming in behind MrBeast was Jake Paul, the controversial YouTuber/boxer, who earned an estimated $45 million last year; game vlogger/comedian/podcaster Markiplier, with $38 million; and longtime comedy duo Rhett & Link, whose “Good Mythical Morning” talk show on YouTube this week celebrated its 10-year anniversary, at $30 million.
There’s no stopping someone who has gone viral for philanthropy videos and insane contests, let’s be honest.
Especially not after creating a fundraising initiative to raise $30 million to remove trash from bodies of water around the world.
More so after pitting some of the most popular influencers against each other to win a whopping $1 million.
MrBeast is on a roll.
