China has a zero-tolerance COVID-19 policy, which means that as soon as a virus outbreak is detected the community in question is put into lockdown.
A lockdown can strike at any moment, sometimes while a person is moving house, leaving them to stay inside without a duvet (true story).
Or even while a person is eating dinner in the home of their blind date – also a true story.
A woman identified only as Wang went viral on Chinese social media for documenting the strange and prolonged date, after being forced into quarantine when a swift lockdown was imposed in the area.
She began her viral dating video diary on WeChat, The Guardian reported, beginning with her return to the city of Zhengzhou from Guangzhou to meet potential suitors:
I’m getting quite old, so my parents arranged more than 10 blind dates for me,” she said in this post.
She wrote that her fifth date had said “he was good at cooking, and invited me to his house so he could cook a meal”.
Then suddenly, a COVID-19 case was detected in the community, forcing her to stay with her blind date for several days.
If they were better suited, the moment might have made it seem like they were fated to be together, but Wang wasn’t so chuffed with the whole situation:
“Besides the fact he’s as mute as a wooden mannequin, everything else [about him] is pretty good,” Wang told the Paper on Tuesday.
“Despite his food being mediocre, he’s still willing to cook, which I think is great.”
It is safe to say that romance did not bloom.
Her video diary on WeChat showed her date cooking meals for her, doing household chores, and working on his laptop while she sleeps, according to clips published by local Chinese media:
Although, she did take down some videos as they were causing embarrassment for her date:
“Friends have been calling him and I think this has definitely affected his life, so I have taken them down for now,” she said in a video posted on Tuesday.
“Thanks everyone for your attention … I hope the outbreak ends soon and that my single sisters also find a relationship soon.”
Hey, not everyone gets to walk out of quarantine somewhat famous.
