Yaseen Bhiku, a businessman from Lenasia, Gauteng, was standing in his driveway after returning home from attending mosque when a gang of four stuffed him into their SUV and drove off.
Bhiku is still reported missing and police have opened up an investigation into the kidnapping, reported Swisher Post.
Kidnappings in South Africa have increased by 60% this year, according to a crime intelligence report, and this case shows just how brazen kidnappers have become.
Bhiku is an Indian national believed to be in his 40s:
CCTV footage shows Bhiku and an unidentified person standing in the driveway chatting casually when a silver SUV drives up and parks on the opposite side of the road.
The SUV didn’t seem to spark any suspicion until two men from the car headed directly for Bhiku, with one appearing to have a gun.
Crime expert Yusuf Abramjee shared two clips of the incident on Twitter, claiming that it took place shortly after 5AM on Tuesday morning:
