The festive season has started, so most (Christmas celebrating) people should have their Christmas trees up by now.
While the usual decorations include tinsel, lights, Christmas bubbles, and other ornaments, one Western Cape family had a surprise addition on their Christmas tree.
Call it a guest, a gift, or an ornament poser, but a little boomslang found a rather festive spot in the tree on Friday.
It was slithering around among the decorations before snake rescuer Gerrie Heyns was called out from his home in Montague to come and help out.
Heyns, who had to travel 62 kilometres to the family’s farm between Robertson and McGregor, told the family not to bother it but to keep an eye on it until he arrived.
That they definitely did:
In his post on Facebook, Heyns shared the somewhat odd Christmas cheer, per The Witness:
“Now this is a first for me! They sent me two photos and I couldn’t believe my eyes! Yes…Boomslang in their Christmas tree!”
…“It was a rural farm area and it took me about 90 minutes to get there. When I got there the snake was still in the Christmas tree. Nevertheless, she got safely removed and I will release her tomorrow,” he said in his post on Friday.
