Harrowing bodycam footage has been released to the public showing how one Los Angeles man’s violent crime spree ended.
Rudy Anderson, the 45-year-old suspect, had jumped from one bad situation to the next on October 8, allegedly shooting a teenage boy, attempting a carjacking and bicycle theft, and then taking a woman hostage in her apartment.
Anderson was shot dead in the apartment by a member of the SWAT team who had barged in to rescue the female victim being held at gunpoint.
While investigating the shooting, the Los Angeles Police Department released the dramatic video so that the public could get “a better understanding of what occurred”.
That’s according to Stacy Spell, an LAPD spokesman, who added via NBC News:
“During the standoff, Anderson moved the hostage to a window overlooking the street and was observed pointing a handgun at her head,” Spell said.
“SWAT officers immediately forced entry into the apartment and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
People on the street below the apartment could see Anderson holding the women by gunpoint at the window, and heard the numerous gunshots, one of which was fatal.
This can be seen in the video, along with the moment Anderson was shot while the victim scurries out of harm’s way.
Because the LAPD video is age-restricted and only available on YouTube, check out this condensed version from ABC7:
Luckily, the victim was uninjured and retrieved safely.
Throughout that day in October, multiple 911 calls had been made as Anderson tried to get away, putting multiple people’s lives on the line with his handgun:
“During this incident, Anderson approached a woman who was seated in her car, brandished a handgun and attempted to gain entry. However, the victim was able to lock her door and Anderson fled the location,” Spell said.
A few minutes later, Anderson allegedly shot and injured a 14-year-old boy, according to Spell. Anderson also shot at the boy’s uncle and mother but missed, the spokesman said.
Anderson fled on foot and tried to steal another victim’s bicycle.
“Anderson forcibly pushed the victim off a bicycle in an attempt to take it from the victim. Anderson brandished a handgun but ultimately fled the location without the bicycle,” Spell said.
His crime spree resulted in him entering the woman’s apartment after spotting the officers, Spell said.
It didn’t take much time for the police to catch up to him and end his awful spree once and for all.
