Spain’s former king, Juan Carlos, has been hiding out in Abu Dhabi after a massive fall from grace.
His demise was not only due to the fact that he was up to his ear in allegations of ” financial improprieties”, but he was also cheating and womanising quite rampantly.
It is now widely known that his sex drive was so vicious that he had to be injected with testosterone blockers to thwart the threat he put on the state.
Before the truth about his sexual exploits came out, regarding just one of his many mistresses, German princess Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn (who is now suing him for harassment), he was alleged to have been able to bed around 5 000 lovers.
That is according to someone who derived the information from government intelligence sources.
Additionally, José Manuel Villarejo, described as a “disgraced former police commissioner entangled in allegations of spying, fraud and bribery”, has come out with all of Carlos’ dirty secrets, most of them written down in a notebook.
Via The Telegraph, he revealed that three of Spain’s largest companies paid more than €5 million (just over R89 million) to silence one of his former lovers – famous model, actress, and Miss World contestant Bárbara Rey:
Energy company Repsol, telecoms provider Telefónica and Santander bank each paid €1,8 million to Ms Rey, according to the newspaper El Periódico, apparently starting from the late 1990s.
…Mr Villarejo’s source for the information was the former CEO of Repsol, Ramón Blanco, who said the companies channelled the money to Ms Rey via Spain’s secret service, then known as the CESID, according to the notebooks.
“In total there were six annual payments of 150 million pesetas (€900 000). They gave the money to CESID, who passed it to the artist,” the newspaper reported.
Rey is now 71 and denies all these allegations:
While never name-dropping, she did let a little loose over the years, speaking on gossip shows and in the press about a secret affair with a “senior figure from the state”.
There was also Emilio Alonso Manglano, the head of Spain’s secret service between 1981 and 1995, who chronicled the money and the affair in some memoirs:
He also alleged that the actress had videos of the pair engaged in intimate acts.
“She has three videos recorded at her home, with hidden cameras in the dining room and two more in the bedroom. You can hear everything,” he said he told colleagues at the time.
Besides the money, Rey was also given special favour in her career, according to another former director of Spain’s secret service, Alberto Saiz:
“This person also was being given access to work contracts, getting the odd advert and other things of that nature,” said Mr Saiz, who led the agency between 2004 and 2009.
He alleged that Ms Rey had worked for the Valencia public television station thanks to influence being exerted in her favour.
I can barely imagine the amount of money that would have been saved if Juan Carlos could contain his urges.
