It helps to know that there are other people out there who don’t let their drinking choices flatten their fun.
Blake Lively, for instance, loves to party but doesn’t necessarily like to get boozed up.
As the actress says, “I don’t drink because I don’t like the effects of alcohol, but I like being a part of it.”
Especially now as the silly season approaches, choosing not to drink can leave you feeling a little alienated and like you’re “not really a part of it”.
That’s a big reason why Lively created her own line of non-alcoholic mixers, dishing out advice about the perfect mocktail-making for any occasion as well.
The craft of a good mixer, which Lively totally backs, is a flavourful drink that can be enjoyed on its own or with alcohol mixed in if someone so chooses.
That’s why we are such big fans of local bespoke mixer provider, Fitch & Leedes, which carries a range of drinks that are perfect on their own or as a delicious cocktail mixer.
For the non-alcoholic drinkers out there, it is nice to know that there is something a little more elevated than just a Sprite to drink on a fun occasion.
That’s where Fitch & Leedes Moments come in, which are non-alcoholic versions of a few favourite cocktails:
There’s the Blushing Mimosa without the zing, the Pink G&T without the G, the Shirley Temple as-is, or the Island Fish Bowl without the boozy punch.
For something more mixable, there’s the Classic range, which includes the zesty Classics Lime Twist, the tropical Classics Passionade, the spicey Classics Ginger Beer, and the bittersweet Classics Rock Shandy.
Taking a page from Lively’s mixologist book, she makes sure she is in control at the party with a few elegant tips, per PEOPLE:
One tip she picked up on was to add one or two “drops” of liquor to a mixed drink, like you would bitters.
“It gives it a flavor, but it’s not going to give it a sort of experience — well, it’ll give it a flavor experience — but not [much] alcohol,” she said, noting that this should only be done for those who are sober-curious rather than in active recovery.
Lively also suggested using a dab of liquor to moisten the rim of your glass before salting it — like with tequila for a virgin margarita.
Via Lifestyle Asia, she also poke about prepping so as to make a “welcoming experience no matter if you’re drinking alcohol or not”:
She starts by prepping all of her different garnishes, depending on whatever is in season.
For the holidays, you may consider apple, blood orange, pomegranate, and fresh mint.
Lively then cuts them into different shapes and sizes and lays them out.
Then she’ll display a beautiful bowl of ice, glassware, different flavours of mixers, and various spirits (for guests who are drinking).
For Lively, presentation is key when it comes to hosting and making a beautiful cocktail or mocktail.
The Classics and Moments range tick all the boxes but we shouldn’t forget about the full range of tonics like Grapefruit, and mixers like Cheeky Cranberry and Spicy Ginger Beer.
At least the problem of providing enough options for the drinkers and non-drinkers in the family is one thing you can tick off for the holiday season.
