The Jurassic World franchise is expanding with yet another sequel.
Jurassic World: Dominion will be taking things to the next level after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018).
The prologue video released by Universal Pictures begins by travelling back 65 million years into the past to the age of the dinosaurs.
If I didn’t know it was for the movies, I would have thought that David Attenborough was time-travelling now.
The teaser brings us back to the classic dinosaurs versus humans trope, as people at a drive-in cinema run screaming from a T-Rex on the loose.
That makes sense since the last movie saw the destruction of Isla Nublar, the home of the dinosaurs, before they escaped into the big wide world.
Jurassic World: Dominion has all the classic crew and cast intact, produced by Colin Trevorrow, Steven Spielberg, and Alexandra Derbyshire, and starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern.
Trevorrow had released a short movie in 2019 – a year after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – titled Battle at Big Rock.
The full sequel was supposed to air in June this year, but because of – say it with me now – the COVID-19 pandemic it was pushed to next year.
Here’s the little teaser, then:
Here’s Trevorrow speaking to The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year:
“It is a true ensemble of all of these people, even if they may not be side by side the whole time.”
“There is just something really exhilarating, just from a generational standpoint, to be able to put all of these characters into a situation where they are again having to not just survive together, but make sure that we all don’t go extinct just like the dinosaurs.”
Speaking of which, did you see that dinosaur speaking about the climate crisis as part of the United Nation’s “Don’t Choose Extinction” campaign?
We’ve still got time…
Jurassic World: Dominion will be in theatres from June 10, 2022.
