In a 2018 interview, Winona Ryder admitted that she might have actually married Keanu Reeves in real life while on set for a movie scene in 1992.
Now, Reeves just confirmed that he and Ryder are indeed “married in the eyes of God”.
Except, he is dating visual artist Alexandra Grant at the moment and Ryder has been in a relationship with fashion designer Scott Hahn since 2011.
Confusing, right? I don’t even know what kind of love shape this is going to turn out to be.
Anyway, the story goes…
Once upon a time, in 1992, Reeves and Ryder starred alongside each other in Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula.
The actors played a couple in the movie and shot a wedding scene to seal the deal.
The interesting part is that they had hired a real Romanian priest who had apparently done the real shindig, technically leaving them married “in the eyes of God”, as Reeves said via Sky News.
Ryder had theorised that the marriage was the real deal in that interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2018:
“We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life.
“In that scene, Francis (Ford Coppola) used a real Romanian priest,” she added.
“We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married.”
A quick interval for the trailer to Dracula:
So yeah, Reeves pretty much admitted that the rumours are true while speaking to Esquire:
“We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests. Winona says we are, Coppola says we are. So I guess we are married under the eyes of God.”
The Dracula couple may have accidentally married, but that hasn’t stopped them from finding true love elsewhere.
Here’s Reeves smiling alongside his actual partner:
Likewise, here’s Ryder with her partner of around 10 years:
It’s all rather confusing, right?
