WWE Wrestling – is it sport or entertainment?

There’s no denying that the wrestlers are athletes, so let’s call it a bit of both.

During last night’s ‘Monday Night Raw’ at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, one ‘fan’ really overstepped the mark when he attacked WWE star, Seth Rollins.

The man jumped the guard rail near the back of the ramp and tackled Rollins to the ground.

Rollins – real name Colby Lopez – was then aided by security who managed to pull the man off him.

This video shows the attack clearly and also comes with some colourful commentary:

Bret “Hitman” Hart was also attacked by a fan at the Barclays Centre in 2019 but that was during a Hall of Fame ceremony.

More footage from the attack last night:

Live TV coverage was quick to cut away from the footage of Rollins and the fan:

According to Sports Illustrated the WWE issued a short statement:

“WWE takes the safety of its performers very seriously. The individual who attacked Seth Rollins has been turned over to the NYPD and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

He’s fortunate he didn’t receive a few snotklaps for his troubles.

I can’t help but think of Piet van Zyl, that utter imbecile who charged onto the field during a 2002 Springbok versus All Blacks test match to tackle referee Dave McHugh and left with a bloody nose.
