Australian TV reporter Matt Doran (above) had one job…
As the host of Channel 7’s Weekend Sunrise show, he had trekked all the way from Sydney to London on November 4, with a crew in tow, to interview Adele.
It would have been her one and only Australian exclusive interview, but then Doran messed it all up rather royally.
He admitted during the interview that he had not listened to the tracks on her latest album, 30, which was a substantial part of the chat.
Granted, at the time that Doran and Adele were to speak, just one track from the album, ‘Easy On Me,’ had been released to the public.
But a sneak peek to the full album was available to him, sitting completely skipped over in his email, HuffPost reported:
Doran said he was “mortified and unequivocally apologetic” for the blunder, and explained that he’d missed an email containing an early preview of the album.
“It was an oversight but not a deliberate snub,” he told the newspaper The Australian. “This is the most important email I have ever missed.”
Doran excitedly posted about the upcoming interview on Instagram, with one top comment noting how it was “…taken minutes before disaster”:

As you can imagine, Adele’s team and representatives did not go easy on him at all:
After Doran told Adele during the interview that he hadn’t listened to “30,” Sony Music, which reportedly had veto rights on the interview, withheld the footage, refusing to let Channel 7 broadcast it.
…The interview was reportedly part of a deal that cost Channel 7 $1 million, including broadcast rights to Adele’s “One Night Only” television special, which aired on the network.
Doran didn’t say that he was suspended but did not appear on Channel 7 for a weekend after the mistake.
Besides the slaps he received over social media for the snafu, other media personalities all over the country were quick to criticise him, too:
“Who walks into an exclusive interview with a world famous musician without listening to their album?” wrote Women’s Agenda Editor-in-Chief Tarla Lambert. She described Doran’s behavior as “privilege personified.”
A wholly different Australian reporter, also by the name of Matt Doran, was caught in the crossfire, aptly tweeting “Go easy on me…” in defence.
While we spare a thought for all the Matt Dorans out there, especially the OG, let’s also talk about that tear-jerking proposal that took place at Adele’s One Night Only show.

NZ Herald revealed that the proposal came about after Quentin Brunson (the proposer) saw a post on social media offering an “amazing” proposal experience:
“It was a post that I saw online, it was looking for someone who was willing to propose to their girlfriend in an amazing, epic way, at one of the most beautiful places in Los Angeles,” he said.
“But they didn’t tell me it was an Adele special, so I went into this blindly, wanting to do something fun for Ashleigh … and it ended up being way bigger than I ever thought it would be.”
Neither of them had any idea that they would be getting proposed in front of the world like that, as well as some A-star celebs like Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gordon Ramsay, Lizzo, Drake, and Melissa McCarthy.
Ashleigh Mann, now the future Mrs Brunson, recalled the experience as being “crazy”, “nuts”, and “insane”.
Sjoe, Adele has given so much.
