Technically, I live in Oranjezicht.
That’s according to my street address, although I’m a world away from living in what can be dubbed a “suburban forest retreat”.
As with any well-designed City Bowl house, there must be a view of Table Mountain. It’s how we Capetonians know where we are at all times.
Anyway, this five-bedroom gem is listed for a cool R79,995 million (you’ll allow us calling it 80 bar) and offers “sanctuary and sophistication, nestled against Cape Town’s most iconic natural landmark”.
The Property24 listing also states the home has been “created to emulate its craggy backdrop”:
From the curved cantilevers to the bold use of cement, glass, wood and other materials, the architecture mirrors the angles and textures of the mountain that overlooks the property.
An enchanting eco-pool, complete with resident fresh-water prawns and naturally-occurring flora, creates a pleasing focal point in the garden, and provides a natural segue from there to the ground level sauna and pool room, with a Jacuzzi. It also has a hammam with artisanal red Zellige tiles handmade in Zimbabwe.
On this level is a yoga studio, as well as two offices…Also on this level is a walk-in wine cellar, constructed with a stone slab from India.
There isn’t a photo of these freshwater prawns.
According to SouthAfrica.co.za, “the only endemic prawn to Southern Africa is the Macropetasma africanus also called the ‘surf shrimp’ or ‘swimming prawn’ and is a non-commercial species.”
The old ‘surf shrimp’ is not a freshwater shrimp.
Excuse my ignorance but I have no idea what kind of prawns you’re buying with this home.
We can show you a video tour of the property:
Very liveable.
The home comes with an off-the-grid setup, using solar panels and MLT inverters, so you’re Eskom-proof as well.
