There’s a whole lot more to that photo of a golden silk monkey, but it might not be so safe for work, depending on where you work.

Ken Jensen captured this guy in a rather compromising position in Yunnan, China, and took first place in the 2021 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.

This year, the finalists were narrowed down to 42 after the judges received in excess of 7 000 photos from right around the globe.

We showed you some of the finalists back in September, including Jensen’s ‘Ouch’, which has now taken the top spot as the overall winner.

Apparently, that stance is actually a show of aggression.

But we can’t help relating it to our own human experience, especially since we share so much DNA with these fellas.

Let’s take a look at some of the other winning shots that capture the hilarious shenanigans of animals all over the world.

The category winner for the Alex Walker’s Serian Creatures on the Land Award is Arthur Trevino with their picture ‘Ninja Prairie Dog!’:

This tete-a-tete actually has a surprising ending, per Gizmodo:

“When this Bald Eagle missed on its attempt to grab this prairie dog, the prairie dog jumped towards the eagle and startled it long enough to escape to a nearby burrow,” Trevino said. “A real David vs Goliath story!”

Oh, so the prairie dog wasn’t putting its hands up in surrender…

For the Spectrum Photo Creatures in the Air Award, John Speirs won with their picture ‘I guess summer’s over’:

In comedy, it is all about timing.

Then, for the Creatures Under the Sea Award, Chee Kee Teo took the prize for a picture of a smooth-coated otter holding its baby in its mouth, bringing it to and fro for a swimming lesson.

It is lovingly titled ‘Time for school’:

For the Amazing Internet Portfolio Award, Vicki Jauron took top spot with her picture ‘The Joy of a Mud Bath’.

It was taken at Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe on a hot afternoon:

It may look like a clumsy elephant taking a tumble, but just trust that the pachyderm knew exactly what it was doing by face-planting into the mud.

The highly commended winners include three that we featured here – ‘I got you!’ by Kranitz Roland, ‘The Green Stylist’ by Gurumoorthy K, and ‘Majestic and Graceful Bald Eagle’ by David Eppley.
