I’m doing my best to avoid reading any spoilers before the full season of Succession is out.
That way, I can binge it in one or two sittings rather than waiting a week for each episode to drop.
Those who plan on doing something similar should look away now. There will be some spoilers below.
Logan Roy (above right), the family patriarch, is widely believed to be based on Rupert Murdoch (above left), and the Roys on the Murdoch family as a whole.
Succession’s creator, Jesse Armstrong, has said it’s based on a number of families, with Sumner Redstone another name in the mix.
In the third episode of season three, Logan is critical of the president and uses his news network ATN to criticise him.
Here’s The Guardian:
ATN questioned the president’s capability for office and demanded the release of cognitive test results, strongly echoing Trump’s “person, woman, man, camera, TV” saga. Would the pressure prove enough for his administration to dial down the DoJ inquiry?
That could also be redirected at President Joe Biden, who many conservatives believe shows signs of cognitive decline.
Just for fun, let’s revisit that Trump saga:

Fascinating.
In real-life, Rupert Murdoch has also taken a few shots at former president Trump.
After accusing Facebook and Google of silencing conservative voices (never mind that Facebook’s most shared stories are overwhelmingly conservative-leaning), Murdoch took a rare stab at Donnie.
Below via Newsweek:
Murdoch said it is crucial for conservatives to play an “active, forceful role” in public debates surrounding education, welfare and economic activity.
“But that will not happen if President Trump stays focused on the past,” Murdoch added. “The past is the past, and the country is now in a contest to define the future.”
In other words, you lost the 2020 election, Donald. No amount of whining is going to change that.
He stopped clear of calling him former president Trump, and Fox News, a network owned by Murdoch, still goes to bat for Trump every day.
The odd stab isn’t going to change the fact that Murdoch is very much a Trump enabler.
