An investigation has been opened after a man was shot in the head by a police officer at Misty Hills Country Hotel, in Muldersdrift, Gauteng, on Saturday.
The man was a guest at the hotel and had been in some kind of argument with staff members, who asked him to leave.
But he refused, which brought in a couple of police officers, leading to one near-fatal moment.
It is not clear what the argument was about, but it escalated beyond words.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has opened an investigation, according to News24:
“… the security and manager followed him to his room and requested him to leave, then he became more aggressive,” said IPID spokesperson Grace Langa.
“He took a firearm out of the bed drawer, cocked it and one bullet fell down, and it is alleged the victim disarmed one police officer of his firearm.
“The guest (victim) was in possession of two firearms, then one police officer took out his service pistol and shot that guest once in the head,” said Langa.
A video of the moment has gone viral, showing the man in his underwear surrounded by police.
A warning that what you’re about to see shows graphic scenes of violence:
