Halloween may be over but there is no shortage of vampires, venom, and bats as far as Marvel is concerned.
Jared Leto is leading this Venom spinoff as a living vampire, with the latest preview for Morbius released yesterday.
Leto’s character suffers from a rare blood disorder, and as a doctor, he undergoes his own experimental treatment.
But that only releases his inner darkness.
Despite (or maybe because of) his new affliction, Morbius still attempts to do right by the world and becomes a very complicated and dangerous superhero.
Compelling storytelling is certainly made when the lines between hero and villain are blurred.
As the upcoming instalment in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, Morbius features a story and screenplay based on the Marvel Comics by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless, reports Deadline.
It is directed by Daniel Espinosa, and stars, in addition to Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.
You should notice from the trailer that Morbius is set inside the same universe as Sony’s other Spider-Man and Spider-Man-adjacent stories, per Polygon:
Michael Keaton shows up, reprising his role as Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Morbius himself makes a joke about being Venom — even though we’re not totally sure anyone in Venom’s universe really knows about Venom.
This does confirm that all of these villains share a universe though, and that means they also share a connection to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Alright, Dr. Morbius will see you now:
Talk about bad blood, hey?
Morbius is set to be released on January 28, 2022.
