This week, many of the world’s leaders are gathered in Glasgow for the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP26 for short.

Naturally, Greta Thunberg is in town, having arrived by train on Saturday evening.

The 18-year-old was mobbed at Glasgow Central train station, and also drew a large crowd on Monday when she joined other youth climate change activists in protesting outside the summit.

One chant, in particular, drew on some local inspiration, with Greta filmed chanting “you can shove your climate crisis up your arse”.

The chant was critical of leaders who have spoken a good game for many years, yet failed to enact actual change:

Not her most concise effort, but at least she’s giving something she believes in a proper bash.

Inside the summit, reports Herald Scotland, one man was sounding the alarm:

Sir David Attenborough addressed more than 100 world leaders at the opening ceremony of COP26…

He said: “Our burning of fossil fuels, our destruction of nature, our approach to industry, construction and learning, our releasing carbon into the atmosphere – we are already in trouble.”

In what could be a huge step forward for South Africa, the 12th biggest carbon dioxide emitter in the world, according to the Global Carbon Atlas, President Ramaphosa secured around R130 billion in a bid to transition from coal and Eskom’s grid towards green energy.

Fantastic, but you can already hear the sound of comrades’ hands being rubbed together at the prospect of all those tenders.
