If you want to design a character that the entire world can enjoy, Mr. Bean provides a good blueprint.
Sure, there are parts of the character that are quintessentially English, but he’s largely relatable and doesn’t rely on language to get the humour across.
No need for rubbish dubbing or anything like that.
Sorry, I forgot to say happy Thursday. Well done, we’re almost there.
Due to the success of Mr. Bean (and perhaps Blackadder – it certainly wasn’t due to those Johnny English movies), Rowan Atkinson is instantly recognisable around the world.
Except, it seems, for a bloke in a car parts shop near Peterborough.
In a 2019 interview on The Graham Norton Show, Atkinson detailed his struggles in trying to convince a man that he was, in fact, the actual Mr. Bean.
Imagine telling a man with an estimated net worth of around $150 million that he could make good money impersonating Mr. Bean at bachelor parties?
I hope the guy was watching, so he too can have a laugh at his own expense.
While we’re here, we may as well enjoy a classic from yesteryear while we count down the hours until the weekend:
