When Apple rolls out new products, the world takes notice.
Last month, we had the ‘California Streaming’ event which saw the unveiling of a range of iPhones, Apple Watches, a new iPad, and more.
The fanfare around the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max was the headline-grabber, although the iPad Mini does look like a very nifty gadget.
You can find all of the latest prices and financing options for the iPhone 13 range and other goodies on Digicape, South Africa’s largest independent Apple retailer.
They also have trade-in options where you can use older Apple devices to reduce the cost of your new purchase.
Yesterday, it was the turn of Apple’s ‘Unleashed’ event to deliver the goods, and the long-awaited M1-equipped MacBook Pros were the real standout.
For the deets on that front, here’s The Verge:
[It] now includes a 14-inch screen, Apple’s new M1 Pro and Max chips, a notch, squared-off design, and a wider selection of ports in addition to the standard Thunderbolt ones — it brings back the HDMI port and SD card reader and adds a MagSafe 3 connector for charging…
It has a 14.2-inch 120Hz ProMotion Mini LED display, which Apple is branding as “Liquid Retina Pro XDR.” It has slimmer bezels than the previous generation but also includes a notch, which houses a 1080p webcam but not Apple’s Face ID system. Resolution-wise, the 14-inch model runs at 3024 by 1964, and it can run at 1,000 nits sustained brightness and 1,600 nits peak brightness.
In layman’s terms, the redesign is a notable feature, as are the two custom chips, the M1 Pro and M1 Max.
These will pack a real punch and are perfect for the likes of content creators, video editors, and graphic designers.
Battery life has also been given the treatment, with the 14-inch MacBook Pro offering up to 17 hours of video playback, and the 16-inch model hitting 21 hours.
Not only that, but both devices can gain 50% battery life from just 30 minutes of charging.
No announcement would be complete without a flashy unveiling video:
The next-generation AirPods were also unveiled, with The Verge again providing further details:
They look a lot like the AirPods Pro, but they don’t have interchangeable tips. The new headphones support spatial audio and are sweat- and water-resistant.
Spacial audio means you can watch movies in Dolby Atmos, creating a more immersive experience.
Perfect for when your partner (or children) are asleep and you can’t crank the TV volume.
The HomePod Mini, the ultimate smart speaker for anyone with an Apple device, will now come in a new range of colours.
Previously available in grey only, there’s now yellow, orange, and blue to choose from:
Nifty, aren’t they?
Products unveiled during the ‘Unleashed’ event are available for pre-order in the US, and should soon be available in our neck of the woods, too.
Keep an eye on Digicape for the latest on that front.
