Kim Kardashian is not known as a funny person.
However, she did do a pretty decent job hosting Saturday Night Live, roasting herself in between boldly firing away at her family and friends.
Showing up in a hot pink bodysuit for her SNL hosting debut, she did a good job to make sure that she would be the best dressed on set.
I expected her fashion to be on fire, but not her jokes.
The New York Post notes that far too many SNL hosts are too image-conscious and risk-averse to participate in sketches, but that Kardashian launched “fearlessly” into every “wacky, hit-or-miss bit”.
As soon as she made her first joke, a little nod towards THAT video that pretty much made her famous, I breathed a sigh of relief knowing that I wouldn’t be cringing throughout the show:
“I’m surprised to see me here, too. I haven’t had a movie premiere in a really long time. I mean actually I only had that one movie come out, and no one told me it was premiering. It must have slipped my mom’s mind.”
The sex-tape survivor then cracked another joke, roasting her own legend, by saying that she’s “a Kim — not a Karen,” after launching into her sisters:
Kardashian (she was actually announced as “Kardashian West”) then made it clear that she’s “so much more than just a pretty face — and good hair, and great makeup, and amazing boobs, and a perfect butt,” she quipped in her slightly nasal monotone.
“I’m so much more than that reference photo my sisters showed their plastic surgeon.”
At some point she killed two birds with one stone with a roast that went for two of her family members:
“I’m not running for president, we can’t have three failed politicians in one family,” referencing step-parent Caitlyn Jenner’s run for governor of California and her estranged hubby Kanye West’s short-lived bid to be president of the US.
Towards the end of the five-minute monologue, after declaring that meeting her “first black person” (OJ Simpson) was thanks to her late father legendary lawyer Robert Kardashian, she even took a shot at the iconic sketch comedy institution itself.
Keep an ear out for it in this video of the monologue:

Kim reportedly needed a couple of 20-hour days in rehearsal to make her high-profile sketch comedy debut the success that it was:
Call times for run-throughs can start at 5 or 6AM and run through 3AM, a show insider confirmed to The Post.
Meanwhile, Kardashian is said to have reached out to a team of experts for advice during her prep period: [Amy] Schumer, 40, Dave Chappelle, 48, Ellen DeGeneres, 63, and James Corden, 43, are just a few of the live performance vets who are rumored to have provided an A-list assist.
Her estranged husband Kanye, who was in the front row of the audience, is also rumoured to have helped Kim with her preparations.
Well, hats off to Kim, everyone.
