South Africa’s Bafana Bafana will host Ethiopia during their 2022 Qatar Fifa World Cup qualifier, which will kick off at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg tomorrow (October 12).

The good news is that fans will be allowed to watch the live match since co-operative governance and traditional affairs minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma made some adjustments.

She amended regulation 69 of the Disaster Management Act this morning, which will allow a maximum of 2 000 football supporters to watch Bafana play against Ethiopia, reported TimesLIVE.

A total of 2000 fans will be allowed to watch the Bafana Bafana v Ethiopia match on Tuesday, 12 October 2021.
The Cogta Ministry has approved that a limited number of spectators will be allowed back into the stadium. The website to apply for tickets will go live this afternoon.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak began in March last year, this will be the first time that sports fans will be allowed inside a stadium to watch a live football match.

“Fans have been hungry to return to the stadium and the small business and informal sector will receive a massive boost as a result of this initiative,” [South African Football Association] SAFA president Danny Jordaan said.

“This news will be received with delight by those who sell food, flags and taxi drivers who take fans to the stadiums.

“It is part of the economy that had suffered a lot as a result of fans not being allowed to attend matches. I am happy, this is the beginning of the restoration of the football economy.”

The Bafana Bafana squad returned to South Africa on Sunday after a 3-1 victory in the away leg in Ethiopia on Saturday.

South Africa, with seven points, remains in first place in Group G ahead of second-place Ghana, with six points, after the Black Stars’ win over last-place Zimbabwe on the same day.

Those wishing to attend the match tomorrow must be fully vaccinated and complete an online application on the Ticketmaster website.

After that, successful applicants will be emailed their tickets for the highly-anticipated match at the FNB Stadium.
