There are so many International Something Days, that the silly ones (most of them) tend to undermine the ones that really matter. Like the one I’m writing about today.
In fact, there are so many ‘special’ days of the year, that daysoftheyear.com has had to break them up into categories. Food & Drink, Animals (Gorilla Suit Day is January 31 – duly noted), Hobbies (Naked Gardening Day, May 2 – check), Nature (ironically includes World Petroleum Day on August 27) and many, many more.
The Food category takes up every day of the year – often overlapping each other. Pears alone have a whole month. That’s right – December is Pear month! For goodness sake. How will we sleep and count down the days?
And whilst the majority seem beyond outrageous, there is one that we follow religiously, here at 2oceansvibe. It’s so good they should call it Dream Day. But they can’t, because World Dream Day is obviously on September 25. So we will just have to call our favourite day of the year by its generic name…
You ready?
Guys, tomorrow… Saturday, October 9, is International Beer and Pizza Day! I swear – just look here.
Imagine adding an official spin to honour a day that will consist entirely of Butler’s Pizza and beer? One should obviously do it all day, as we need time to reflect upon the millions of pizzas and beers that have sacrificed their lives to give us this freedom.
Don’t stress, though – you can switch between normal and vegan!
What’s more, Butler’s is now available at Cafe du Cap in Newlands – served to your table!
Yes, the first restaurant on the planet ever to do so.
Back to tomorrow… and according to Days Of The Year:
The history of Beer and Pizza Day is the history of two amazing substances that travelled the long and winding roads of culinary antiquity to ultimately come together on our tables and hearts. Beer is the oldest alcoholic beverage known to man, and has occupied an important part of our culinary past as both a liquid food source as well as a safe way of imbibing water…
Pizza, on the other hand, heralds back to 997 AD in Gaeta, Italy, though of course it didn’t have any tomato sauce on it. Tomatoes didn’t come to Europe until the discovery of the New World, and when Italians discovered tomatoes they pretty much never looked back! The first place it went? Their favored food, Pizza! Finally, after thousands of years, these two amazing things came together to be celebrated in Beer and Pizza Day!
Or, as we call it here at 2oceansvibe, Butler’s and Beer Day.
And you can get it from 12 noon at Cafe du Cap – any day of the week!
Cheers!
