Yes indeed, it’s that time of the week.
My condolences to all of those forced to return to the office, where you must now pretend to be busy until 5PM.
We live in outdated times.
To help you pass the hours, here are three trailers worth a peruse.
The first is really what they call a teaser trailer, but it’s the closest thing we have to a look at the fourth season of Stranger Things.
New locations, new characters, same old problems.
CNET with more on Creel House:
The show’s creators the Duffer Brothers describe the house as a “super important” location in season 4. We see the gang break into the ruined house in the present day, but something strange clearly went down there. We’re getting massive Haunting of Hill House vibes from a glimpse of a 1950s family moving in, to the tune of Dream a Little Dream of Me by Ella Fitzgerald. Is that a clue to the horrific events that seemed to follow?
Previous trailers have shown off some new locations for the show, which makes sense since Police Chief Jim Hopper ended up in Russia at the end of last season. The show is also set to debut at least four new characters: band nerd Vickie, basketball player Patrick, guidance counselor Ms. Kelly and cheerleader Chrissy.
The fourth season is only due for release next year.
For the third season, it’s reported that the kids were pulling in $250 000 per episode, while David Harbour (Jim), Winona Ryder (Joyce), and Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) made $350 000 per episode.
Not too shabby.
On October 22, Apple TV+ will premiere three episodes of Invasion.
This one’s already getting loads of buzz, reports Vulture:
The sci-fi series, starring Sam Neill, Shamier Anderson, and Golshifteh Farahani, follows five ordinary people from across the world as they confront the alien invasion overwhelming Earth. An apocalyptic scene unfolds in the trailer with bombs, explosions, and power outages. People are in disarray as they contend with the surrounding disasters of the alien invasion. However, executive producer Simon Kinberg, who also produced X-Men and Deadpool, is making us question who the real aliens are.
“We’re all aliens,” says Kinberg.
He’s not saying that we’re actual extraterrestrials, but rather that there’s “a sense of alienation that I think all people carry with them in some form, whether they’re alienated from their families, [or] alienated from their communities”.
Okay, Simon.
The series does look good, and it’s tough not to like Sam Neill:
I’m not a massive sci-fi fan, but this looks like one to keep an eye on.
What do we have next?
Not Spencer, or I Know What You Did Last Summer (a modern-day series remake), because we’ve covered those already.
Let’s go with a true-crime docuseries with a difference, and you better believe that our very own Hansie Cronje makes an appearance.
More via The Wrap:
“Bad Sport” looks at six unbelievable stories at the intersection of sports and crime, as told by the athletes, coaches and law enforcement officials at the center of the controversies.
Episodes include the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic figure skating scandal; superstar Indycar driver Randy Lanier’s marijuana-smuggling operation; the Arizona State University basketball point-shaving scheme; the horse hitman at the center of an insurance fraud ring; Calciopoli, the biggest match-fixing scandal in Italian football history; and South African cricket captain Hansie Cronje’s tragic fall from grace.
The six-part docuseries premieres next on Wednesday (October 6):
Each episode is an hour so there’s plenty of time to get into the nitty-gritty of it all.
I’m definitely looking forward to the Hansie episode.
But first, ladies and gentlemen, the weekend.
