A group of 10 to 15 armed robbers made off with a massive bag of jewellery from a store in Umhlanga’s Gateway Shopping Centre yesterday afternoon.
Leaked footage from the CCTV cameras in the store showed three men come in first at around 2PM, while customers tried on jewellery with the clerks behind the desk.
When one of them brought out a gun, the customers made a quick escape while the clerks cowered for their lives in the corner.
The rest of the men then joined and loaded the bag full of “an unknown amount of jewellery” according to The Witness:

Somewhere amidst the chaos, a male security guard working in the centre tried to intervene with the robbery but was shot in the abdomen.
He was treated on the scene before being rushed off to hospital where he remains in critical condition, according to Shawn Herbst, a Netcare 911 spokesperson.
This marks the second jewellery store armed heist at the Gateway shopping centre in Umhlanga this year.
Police are investigating.
