Gaming has come a long, long way since the likes of Pong and Space Invaders.
That was before my time, but I was fond of a little Tetris and Super Mario Bros., the modern-day iterations of which look nothing at all like those that came before.
For a closer look at the history of gaming, I’d recommend High Score, but let’s laser in on Resident Evil 4 and virtual reality (VR) headsets.
You won’t catch me watching horror films – I value my sleep – and you also won’t catch me donning an Oculus VR headset for what is some truly terrifying gameplay.
Resident Evil 4 VR will release on Oculus Quest 2 next month, reports PC Gamer:
A lot of the game’s objects and menus have been re-worked to flow better with a VR setup. The classic pause screen is fully interactable, being able to grab weapons and items and rearrange them freely.
Weapons are also grabbed from off-the-body rather than in a menu—guns can be retrieved from the waist, while healing objects are grabbed from the left shoulder and a knife from the chest.
You’ll need all of those weapons because the baddies just keep on coming:
Call me old-fashioned, but fending off a chainsaw-wielding zombie in a virtual reality world isn’t how I choose to unwind.
You do you.
According to review aggregation site Metacritic, Resident Evil 4 is Capcom’s highest-rated game of all time, selling in excess of 10 million copies across various platforms.
Here’s a longer gameplay preview via IGN:
Resident Evil 4 VR will be released exclusively for Oculus Quest 2 on October 21.
