Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu was once a police constable, entrusted with protecting citizens on Gauteng’s East Rand.
Now she stands accused of murdering family members in return for insurance payouts, with proceedings against her underway at the high court in Palm Ridge.
The prosecution appears to have a pretty strong case against Ndlovu, bolstered by footage allegedly captured by an undercover police officer.
According to TimesLIVE, the officer hid a recording device in the car he was travelling in, alongside Ndlovu and a hitman.
The trio was headed to Bushbuckridge, where Ndlovu was due to show them her sister’s house. She allegedly wanted the two men to burn her sister, Joyce, and her five children alive in the house.
In her own words, Ndlovu said they should “leave no witnesses behind”.
It’s every bit as chilling as it sounds.
In order to secure her alibi, Ndlovu had checked herself into a hospital, before securing a day pass that allowed her to leave.
Perhaps the most chilling part is how calm Ndlovu remains when she talks about killing her sister and the children, who must die because “sparing them will mean leaving behind witnesses”:
That’s going to be tough to argue against in court.
Whilst Ndlovu was arrested before a hit could be carried out on her sister, the state alleges that she has already profited to the tune of R1,4 million from the death of six people.
That includes her cousin (murdered, she received R131 000 from his death policies), her sister (strangled, she received more than R717 000 in insurance), and her niece (attacked and died, she received R120 000 from her death policies).
This week, Ndlovu’s defence will lay out its argument, with the accused having pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder or conspiring to commit murder, defeating the ends of justice, and fraud.
