Last week, a young woman shared a harrowing story of an alleged rape on Instagram.
At the same time, she also revealed that there have been secret, illegal parties taking place in Cape Town during lockdown.
The post was made anonymously to an account seemingly set up exclusively for the story, @speakingoutforall.
The woman claims she was raped within 10 minutes of being alone in an underground nightclub in Woodstock.
The post reveals two locations with addresses, one of which is City Club, which she says has been hosting parties between 10PM and 4AM.
Before the lockdown level 2 announcement this past Sunday, these were the exact curfew hours, which meant that these parties were operating outside of the law.
This fact has made it quite difficult for the young woman to seek help, as she explains extensively in the Instagram post:
“Illegal parties will not phone the police if anything no happens. And illegal parties will attract a crowd that attend these events, premised on the rejection of laws, thinking that the nature of the party means they too can ignore the law.”

One of the comments on the post says:
“A rape victim does not choose to be raped and those that do think it is their fault are rape apologists that should be held accountable for their accusations. These situations happen way too often – the lack of protection and support there is for women to be safe is disgraceful.”
Now, per IOL, police are investigating the rape allegation, and also focusing attention on illegal clubs operating during curfew hours.
There is a special focus on the two addresses mentioned in the post.
This has been confirmed by Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, via CapeTalk:
A rape case has since been opened at Woodstock Police Station and it is currently under investigation.
A manager at one of the clubs has also been fined for transgressing the Disaster Management Act regulations:
He made an admission of guilt and alcohol was confiscated from the establishment.
CapeTalk’s Refilwe Moloto spoke with Potelwa yesterday regarding the case:
