One of the worst things that can happen to any parent happened to Alicia Lamprecht this morning when her seven-month-old son was taken after her car got hijacked.
The nightmare occurred this morning in Bishop Street, Observatory, shortly after 10AM.
The suspect fled with the victim’s VW Polo with her baby inside, according to SAPS spokesperson Andrè Traut, via IOL.
The car was first ditched in Mowbray, though, with the baby nowhere to be found.
Thankfully, after a few hours Lamprecht was reunited with baby Henco who was found unharmed in Maitland:
Woodstock police, working with various leads, managed to relocate the child:
“The immediate response by the members of the Flying Squad and the K9 Unit resulted in the vehicle being recovered in Voortrekker Road, Maitland.
Further investigation on the scene led the members to an address in Dellville Square in Maitland where the baby was found unharmed,” Traut said.
Lamprecht, in an interview with CapeTalk, confirmed that little Henco is now safe and sound, which allowed the whole family to breath a massive sigh of relief:
“I’m very emotional but I’m doing well. We found him!… Somewhere in Maitland. The police found him. They were doing an exceptional job.”
She mentioned that she was busy talking with a friend when someone hijacked the car, which was “literally not even two metres away”.
“They threw him out of the car apparently. Out of a moving vehicle with the car seat. A mom heard him cry and she went and picked him up.”
According to police spokesperson Colonel Alroy van der Berg, who spoke with News24, “a witness had phoned 10111 after seeing a baby being dropped in a “carry cot” next to a Maitland shop by a man, who then drove off.”
After a harrowing morning, Lamprecht’s relief must be immense.
