The Matrix Revolutions came out in 2003, completing the trilogy.
The first movie in the trilogy, The Matrix, came out in 1999.
Yes, you now feel old.
Over the years, the influence of The Matrix has only grown (think ‘red pill, blue pill’ references), as has the excitement around the release of the fourth instalment.
The release of The Matrix Resurrections is drawing ever nearer, and we will see a full trailer by the end of the week.
To really rally the troops ahead of that release, Warner Bros. has launched a website featuring an interactive and widely divergent first look at the movie.
Head to WhatIsTheMatrix.com and you’ll find this screen:
So, red pill or blue pill?
Depending on which one you choose, you will actually be shown different teaser trailers.
Mashable explains:
The red offers glimpses of star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, apparently going through the familiar process of post-Matrix “rebirth,” while a familiar-sounding voice (that’s definitely not Laurence Fishburne) tells you “This could be the first day of the rest of your life — but if you want it, you have to fight for it.”
The blue, narrated in blandly menacing Agent-like tones by Neil Patrick Harris, informs you that you’ve lost the ability to tell reality from fiction.
Both are combined back to back here:
While it doesn’t show in the trailer above, the website’s trailers also detect your device’s local time and incorporate it into the voiceover.
In addition, the clips from the film that are featured differ slightly every time you watch a trailer, even when choosing the same pill again.
More will be revealed with the full trailer later this week, but until then enjoy having a click around the interactive site.
The Matrix Resurrections is slated for release on December 22.
