According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), more than six million South Africans are fully vaccinated.
That means they either received the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, or have received two shots of the Pfizer–BioNTech vaccine.
Our Department of Health is hoping to vaccinate at least 70% of the adult population by the end of the year, which is a long way from where we stand at present, with about 15% of the country’s adults fully vaccinated.
If you’re not yet one of the fully vaccinated, the Department of Health is making the process far simpler.
The department has announced that the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) will now let you schedule a time and a place for your vaccine appointment, rather than having one assigned to you.
These steps via MyBroadband:
After you have registered for the vaccination, you will be able to book your vaccination appointment, which requires:
- Your identification number (ID, Non-RSA Passport, or Asylum Seeker/Refugee Number).
- Access to the cellphone number you used to register (for OTP verification).
- Your preferred vaccination site.
You will then be able to select a time slot at your preferred vaccination centre.
Voila – done.
For those who prefer their instructions in picture form:
You can take your chances with a walk-in, as many have, but if you want to book ahead then that’s now an option.
Register here, book your slot here, rock up, get jabbed, and hugely reduce your chances of ending up needing to be hospitalised from COVID-19.
