A minister of just any country needs a decent sense of humour to survive all the myriad challenges that can come their way during their term of service.
The least of which might be possibly fudging things during a live TV interview, for example.
New Zealand’s ministers are definitely no exception, as was witnessed with their COVID-19 response minister who really put his foot in it with his viral “spread their legs” comment.
Filling his space on social media at the moment is the country’s minister for social development, Carmel Sepuloni, along with her mischievous little son and a carrot, shaped just as mischievously.
Here’s The Guardian with the juice:
A New Zealand cabinet minister has become the latest public figure to be embarrassed by an unfortunate incident involving a video call after her live TV interview was interrupted by her son, who entered the room excitedly brandishing a phallic carrot.
Sepuloni was in the midst of a live Zoom interview with Radio Samoa, a local broadcast radio station.
Suddenly her son, grinning from ear to ear, came charging in behind her.
Enjoy:
Her son had apparently found the carrot among the groceries, and I guess he just had to let its existence be known to as many people as possible, as soon as possible.
Sepuloni tweeted about it, owning the situation as a good mother and minister should:
That moment when you’re doing a LIVE interview via Zoom & your son walks into the room shouting & holding a deformed carrot shaped like a male body part. 🙄🤦🏽♀️ Yes, we were almost wrestling over a carrot on camera, and yes, I’m laughing about it now but wasn’t at the time! 🥴 pic.twitter.com/oUbcpt8tSu

She also reportedly gave a well-deserved shout-out to other parents juggling homeschooling and remote work, saying, “a big ups to all our parents working from home and parenting at the same time – I see you!”
Schools are currently closed across the country, with everybody but essential workers staying at home during the level 4 lockdown.
Sepuloni also added: “Note to self: I will never buy the odd-shaped carrot pack again.”
Yeah, veggies on the grocery list will definitely need an asterisk going forward, especially if there are any Zoom meetings scheduled.
