Snow is rather rare in the Mother City itself, with Table Mountain only being graced by the cold white stuff maybe once a year if it is lucky.
The last time that it snowed on Cape Town’s iconic mountain was August 29 last year.
A year later, almost to the day, it snowed on Table Mountain again.
Table Mountain Cable Way posted images and a very excitable video to their Facebook page on the morning of August 28 (Saturday), per Getaway.
The video shows a couple of snowflakes flurrying down, gathering in a thin layer in some areas on top of the mountain, while the people lucky enough to be there in the moment shout with joy:
These images show what it looked like after all the snow had landed – a very thin and sparse table cloth:
Beautiful. If only I wasn’t so committed to my duvet, then I would have been up there breathing icicles and watching the flakes fall.
But if you didn’t see it, you definitely felt it.
The past Saturday also saw snow falling heavily in Matroosberg, and even KwaZulu-Natal residents reported some light snow.
On second thought, an unwavering commitment to my duvet seems totally necessary in the circumstances.
