Walking into a bathroom that has been sullied by someone else is unpleasant for two reasons.
Firstly, you have to endure the aroma that has been left behind.
Nobody wants to be rushed, because the bathroom is one of the world’s few remaining places of sanctity, but rush you must.
Secondly, anybody who sees you leaving is going to assume that it was you who caused the stench, rather than the person who went before you.
A real double-edged sword, as you must now make it clear upon exiting that you are not the responsible party.
Take Lewis Hamilton, for example, who took that second part to extreme measures at yesterday’s Belgian Grand Prix.
Here’s Fox Sports:
Hamilton was hopping into his Mercedes just minutes before the scheduled start of the race… when he shared his disgust at somebody dropping a bomb inside his trackside toilet.
The 36-year-old’s scathing attack on Formula 1 officials may be creating more headlines around the world, but it was his pre-race story that really needs to be told.
“I’m glad I went to the toilet. The one I went to, someone had dropped a crazy bomb in there,” he said.
The reigning world champion went on to say that it will haunt him for life:
Lewis Hamilton: “I’m glad I went to the toilet. The one I went to, someone had dropped a crazy bomb in there. The worst thing ever. It’s going to haunt me for life…” pic.twitter.com/FpSP2MnCRn

Part of me thinks the shock and horror is a little forced, like it was actually Hamilton who dealt it and is now trying to cover his tracks.
However, unconfirmed reports suggest it was a French cameraman:
‘@LewisHamilton: “I’m glad I went to the toilet. The one I went to, someone had dropped a crazy bomb in there. The worst thing ever. It’s going to haunt me for life…” Apparently it was a French TV cameraman

Somebody will probably get to the bottom of this, given that the film crew for Netflix’s Drive to Survive series was following Mercedes all weekend.
The race itself was rather farcical, as drivers completed just two laps, all behind the safety car, as perilous conditions made racing too dangerous to continue.
Max Verstappen was declared the winner of the shortest race in the sport’s history, and Hamilton was not impressed:
All in all, a rather average weekend for the Mercedes driver.
Verstappen gained ground in the driver standings, and he must now deal with the emotional trauma of his toilet visit.
