There’s something about a quality catch from a fellow supporter that gets a cricket crowd all riled up.
I’ve spent a great deal of time sitting on the grass embankment at Newlands, and have trodden on a fair few picnic baskets trying to pluck a big hit out of the air, but to no avail.
The quest continues, if and when we’re ever allowed to watch live sport again.
Over in England, the national team is getting battered by India, whilst The Hundred dominates the domestic scene.
The less said about the format the better, but it did give us a great moment earlier in the week. Here’s The Guardian:
There was a moment to cherish for a fan at the Hundred after he caught Liam Livingstone’s gigantic six into the stands as Birmingham Phoenix beat Northern Superchargers at Headingley on Tuesday. The fan caught the towering six before tumbling over the seats in front of him. As cheers roared out, the spectator grabbed the remains of his beer and downed it on camera.
That’s pretty much the trifecta – the catch, the cheers, and the downing of the beer.
What makes this all the more impressive is that during his celebrations, the fan also snatched his cellphone from mid-air after it slipped from his pocket.
All in all, as Richie Benaud might say, a marvellous effort:
