Throw a large group of teenagers together, introduce copious amounts of alcohol, and you are likely to see a drop in adherence to rules.
After last year’s debacle at Ballito Rage, which turned into a super-spreader event, the organisers of Plett Rage cancelled the 2020 event, as the second wave started to produce a spike in COVID-19 numbers along the Garden Route.
That would have been Plett Rage’s 21st birthday. I guess it missed out on embarrassing speeches and its dad throwing down some old-school moves on the dance floor.
Well, planning for 2021 Plett Rage is well underway, and there are some rules.
Ronen Klugman, the founder and owner of the jol, says attendees will need to be vaccinated in order to attend.
More from TimesLIVE:
“We are going to require everyone to have been vaccinated before they come. We feel that it’s our responsibility to make sure that people are safe,” he said. Safety was vital, said Klugman, to “unlock the entertainment industry”…
Another of the safety measures in place, said Klugman, was that those attending would have to produce a negative Covid-19 test to gain access.
“In addition, certain things that we can do that are in our control include a negative test on arrival — a negative PCR test. We want the consumers to know their status and not spread Covid-19. We will test all our suppliers and everyone working at the rage,” he said.
Vaccinations for those aged 18 to 34 opens tomorrow, and then there is a 42-day wait until the second Pfizer jab can be administered.
Plett Rage organisers have a vaccination requirement survey for those interested to share their feedback.
In addition, rather than hosting one massive gathering, Plett Rage will be split into two separate four-day events, with limited tickets sold for each.
The first party, ‘Weekend 1’, will be from December 3 to December 6.
The second party, ‘Weekend 2’, will run from December 8 to December 11.
There has already been massive pushback from some quarters about the safety of hosting the event this year, and there’s a long way to go before things are locked in.
Here’s a sizeable caveat:
Though they don’t yet have permission to host the event, Klugman was adamant that organisers would adhere to all government regulations.
“We don’t have permission to trade yet. We intend to trade subject to the country being unlocked at a certain level, and that would hopefully be 350 [people] in an outdoor gathering.”
Before you ask, should the event not go ahead for any reason, Klugman says ticket holders will be fully refunded, “if we can’t host the event and the decision not to host the event is taken a month before we are supposed to trade”.
What if the decision is taken less than a month before the event? Also, you will not be refunded any booking fees.
You can find pre-registration and ticketing details here.
