You’ve heard of the Bee Gees, but have you heard of the Dee Gees?
They’d be the Foo Fighters’ disco alter ego, and they were out in full force ahead of the band’s show in Kansas last Thursday.
As has become somewhat customary, the Westboro Baptist Church, “a famously homophobic, transphobic, and generally bigoted hate group”, were picketing outside the venue.
Rather than fighting hate with hate, Grohl and the band preached the gospel of love, acceptance, and dancing, reports Mashable:
“I love everybody. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do?” he said into his microphone while performing on a moving truck.
“Can’t you just love everybody? Cause I think it’s about love — that’s what I think… and you shouldn’t be hating. You know what you all should be doing? You should be dancing.”
That last line directly references the Bee Gees’ “You Should Be Dancing,” which you can hear the band covering
From the 30-second mark, you’ll see the Dee Gees round the corner with the disco classic loud and clear:
“Dude, nice!” says a guy holding a sign that says ‘free will is a Satanic lie’.
Leave the Satanists out of this and own your hate, man.
Here’s another angle on the Foo Fighters drive-by, shot from the vehicle behind the band:
Quality trolling aimed at low-quality trolls.
There’s actually a Dee Gees album to enjoy, reports Variety:
The Foos’ take on the Bee Gees’ dance classic is featured on the band’s latest musical venture, “Dee Gees / Hail Satin,” which is half disco covers and half live cuts from “Medicine at Midnight.”
The Westboro / Foo Fighters feud has now been going on for more than a decade, and there’s only one winner here.
