We seaside Saffas know exactly what it’s like to have our precious beach reduced to an illegal activity during lockdown.
Been there, done that, don’t want the T-shirt, thanks.
We’ve also had our fair share of cops cracking down on those who flout COVID-19 regulations, with beachgoers running, or furiously cycling, away from the law.
But Australia took it to a whole new level recently by using a police chopper to warn the beachgoers about breaching the public health order.
A crowd of sunbathers had gathered at Gordons Bay in Sydney over the weekend when a police helicopter appeared to tell them to leave immediately with a loudspeaker.
A video of the scene was uploaded to TikTok:
@seeshotsHave you ever heard a 👮♀️ warning from a 🚁 before? ##sydneylockdown ##policeoperation ##lockdownlife ##gordonsbay ##easternsuburbssydney ##coogee ##police♬ Know Yourself – Drake
According to Pedestrian, the beach is rather small, so social distancing wasn’t really happening.
Plus, the current lockdown level rules that being outdoors is only allowed for exercise, rather than enjoying the sea, sand, and sun, especially in a small cove:
NSW Police had been on particularly high alert over the weekend due to talks of another anti-lockdown protest in Sydney’s Inner West, which thankfully turned out to be a fizzer.
The lack of rabid anti-lockdown protesters running around the CBD allowed the cops to turn their attention towards other potential infringements of the stay-at-home restriction.
Anti-lockdown protesters? Yeah, we’ve also seen a fair share of them here.
I guess on some level, we can sympathise with this situation.
