It’s that time of the week again.
Before we peruse anything, I insist you first watch the moment Tatjana Schoenmaker realised she had shattered a world record and won gold for South Africa in Tokyo.
If that doesn’t put a smile on your face, you’re dead inside.
Now for the Springboks to beat the British & Irish Lions tomorrow, and Akani Simbine to get a medal in the men’s 100 metres, and it will have been a magical sporting weekend.
But hey, back to those three trailers, the first of which is focused on the father of tennis’ most famous sister duo.
Here’s Deadline:
The film is based on the inspirational, true story of Richard Williams (played by Will Smith). An undeterred father, Richard was instrumental in raising Venus (Saniyya Sidney) and Serena Williams (Demi Singleton) — two extraordinarily gifted athletes who ended up changing the sport of tennis forever.
Driven by a clear vision of their future and using unconventional methods, Richard has a plan that will take Venus and Serena from the streets of Compton, California to the global stage.
“This world ain’t never had no respect for Richard Williams,” he tells his daughters in the trailer. “But they’re going to respect y’all.”
Venus has seven Grand Slam wins, and Serena has 23. Add in the latter’s 14 in women’s doubles, and two in mixed doubles, and she has a total of 39 Grand Slam titles.
If you don’t respect them, you don’t understand the game.
Trailer teed up and ready to go:
King Richard will be released in US theatres from November 19, as well as available to stream from the same date on HBO Max.
Trailer two, and we’re taking to the water for this one.
Playing with Sharks profiles a remarkable Australian woman named Valerie Taylor, who started out hunting sharks, but then grew to love them.
More from First Showing:
[Taylor] is now an outspoken shark activist and conservationist, fighting to save them.
From twice Emmy-nominated director Sally Aitken, the Playing with Sharks film captures the life of a woman ahead of her time—a fearless diver, cinematographer, and a pioneering conservationist whose work would forever change our understanding of the ocean’s most magnificent apex predators.
Shark attacks have a tendency to grab headlines, but there is so much more to these beautiful animals than that:
Playing with Sharks started streaming last Friday (July 23) on Disney+.
Our third trailer deals with something more lighthearted – a Royal Family animated satire titled The Prince.
This via Screen Rant:
Based on the video, the series will focus on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s son Prince George.
However, the trailer also indicates The Prince will take aim at all of the royal family members. The series even features Meghan and Harry after their move to LA.
Focusing on Prince George is a safe move since he’s too young to be involved in the family drama or have any dirt on him. However, viewers can likely expect there to be some commentary on the current situation.
There’s absolutely no way you make a series about the Royal Family without poking fun at the various scandals of the past few years.
I wonder if Prince Andrew will get a proper mention?
The Prince started streaming on HBO Max yesterday (July 29).
There you have it. Three trailers in the bag, and one step closer to the weekend.
