It takes something special to lift the nation’s spirits on a Sunday night, and President Ramaphosa’s announcement that the alcohol sales ban would be lifted with immediate effect seems to have done the trick.
Congrats also to the 18 to 34 age bracket, who will be eligible to start receiving vaccines from September 1.
Now is the time to do our bit to keep one another safe, and we should also do our best to support local businesses.
Restaurants and bars have been particularly hard hit, and there are a number of initiatives aimed at stimulating a revival of sorts.
Our favourite, the #siplocal initiative, is being spearheaded by Kinship Spirits, and they’re now offering you the chance to win a R1 000 bar tab voucher at 13 different watering holes across Cape Town.
Entering can be done via the Instagram posts of three of Kinship’s spirits range – Malachite Fynbos Gin, Albatross Vodka, and Karo Brandy.
The posts will follow further down the page, and here’s how you can win:
It’s not rocket science, is it?
The winners will be announced on Friday, July 30, and terms and conditions apply.
You’re welcome to enter across all three of the posts to increase your chances, so don’t be shy.
First up, Malachite Fynbos Gin, which is made using only hand-picked, sustainable floral botanicals, which blend perfectly with subtle juniper mingles with hints of elderflower and chamomile, spring blooms, and delicate spice.

Next is Albatross Vodka, distilled from a selection of the finest Cape grapes and the purified water of the Table Mountain aquifer.
This produces a pure, classy vodka with brilliant character and depth.

Finally, Karo Cape Brandy, double distilled in copper potstills and matured in French oak barrels for 13 years, all under the watchful eye of Master Distiller Kobus Gelderblom at Oude Molen Distillery.

A R1 000 bar tab is a pretty good excuse to get a few friends together for a catch-up drink.
Just don’t be too Capetonian, and talk about getting together without ever actually doing it.
Let’s get behind the #siplocal initiative, and show our local establishments that when times are tough, we can be relied upon to show our support.
