There are some looted goods you will never get back.
SANDF soldiers are currently going door to door in parts of the country in an effort to recover items. Thus far in Sebokeng, Gauteng, they’ve recovered a cell tower battery, livestock, building materials, solar panels, shopping trolleys, basic grocery items, and clothes.
In KwaZulu-Natal, one item that had the Twitter sleuths digging around (you don’t want that to happen) was a large blue sofa.
It was taken last week from Springfield Value Centre, at Umgeni Business Park in Durban, with the looted furniture store turning to social media to try and get it back.
Leather Gallery sponsored this Instagram Story:
The viral video they talk about is this one:

On Leather Gallery’s website, the San Pablo Corner Sofa is listed as sold out, with an asking price that starts at R67 999:
Now for the good news.
TimesLIVE reports that the sofa has been tracked down to an informal settlement near Quarry Road in Durban:
This is according to social media users, who responded to Leather Gallery’s call for information on the whereabouts of the couch… with most giving the exact location, right down to its proximity to the nearest spaza shop.
Leather Gallery owner Greg Parry told TimesLIVE on Thursday that he was overwhelmed with the response received from customers and community about the whereabouts of some of the items stolen from the Leather Gallery Springfield showroom.
“We are in the process of investigating the information received from many individuals. We have taken every tipoff into consideration and are compiling the many reports we received from the public about where some of our furniture could potentially be located,” he said.
Parry says that while they would love to retrieve the sofa, as well as other looted stock, “the situation is still potentially dangerous and can become volatile at any moment.”
The South African Police Service did not respond to TimesLIVE’s query on whether they could assist with the retrieval.
It’s not yet coming home (English football fans can relate), but perhaps the sofa will in the days to come.
English fans will have to wait a little longer.
