The rapid rise and fall of Adam Neumann’s cult-like company WeWork has been well-documented over the years.
As a quick refresher, the company went from being the darling of the venture capital world, with a market value of around $47 billion, to unravelling and requiring a bailout in a matter of years.
It is quite clear that the debaucherous behaviour of the founder was a huge contributor.
Besides podcasts and documentaries detailing the once-heralded start-up’s downward spiral, there is also a new book out, The Cult of We: WeWork, Adam Neumann, and the Great Startup Delusion, with even more salacious stories from the company’s heyday.
As Input Mag puts it, it’s “hard to choose the most incredible anecdotes”.
But one story that has been getting some attention of late recounts Neumann’s passion to party hard, often at the expense of everyone around him.
The book chronicles the madness that took place aboard WeWork’s private jet, and Neumann, described as “partier in chief”, would often be flying high in more ways than one.
Apparently, he would get so high smoking cannabis inside the jet that the crew were forced to wear oxygen masks.
The book also reveals how Don Julio 1942 had to always be stocked on the plane, even for morning flights, and an industrial-strength smoke sucker was installed in his office to clear his post-toke smoke.
It’s noted that Neumann often took meetings completely hungover.
In addition, The Daily Mail also reports that on other flights, so much tequila would be consumed that those on board would be vomiting all over the aircraft with lengthy cleanup sessions required afterwards.
VistaJet, a private jet charter company was forced to take its aircraft out of service on several occasions to mop up vomit and alcohol spills.
The company say that on several occasions curtain dividers were also torn down by the CEO or his companions.
Revolting.
Anyway, WeWork still exists today and plans to go public on the stock market soon.
Although, it has downsized and is worth far less than what it was once valued at.
