If you haven’t figured it out yet, there’s a whole other side to Netflix, hidden from you by algorithms that presume to know what you like.
That means that no matter how much scrolling you’ve done on the platform, you actually haven’t fully exhausted all of your options.
By using a set of codes, you can unlock the good stuff outside of what Netflix continuously recommends to you.
These codes are based on a number system used to categorise films and shows by genre and subgenre, and there are SO many of them available.
You can check out netflix-codes.com for a full list.
While the codes are still the same, we’ll take this opportunity to update you on some of the other methods for using the codes and unlocking more of what Netflix has to offer.
The method mentioned before is manually copying and pasting a code of interest at the end of this web address “http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/”, which can only allow you to search on a desktop and not an app.
For example, if you wanted to check out a political documentary, you’d type “http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/7018” into your browser.
Or, for an action thriller, “http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/43048”.
Now, there are more options for using the codes, and they’re not exclusive to desktop use, either.
CNET has the lowdown, starting with the easiest way – installing the Better Browse for Netflix extension for Chrome:
1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and search “Better Browse for Netflix.”
2. Click Add to Chrome.
3. Click Add Extension.
4. Log into your Netflix account in a new tab.
At the top of the Netflix home screen, you should see a new option — Browse All — next to My List. Click that to search manually or scroll through the subgenres available.
Another way is through the Netflix codes website:
1. Visit netflix-codes.com in your PC or mobile browser.
2. Find the genre or subgenre you want to explore.
3. Tap the code next to the genre or subgenre you want.
4. If you’re on a device that has the Netflix app installed, the app should open and take you directly to the genre or subgenre you chose. If you don’t have the app installed, it’ll open Netflix through the browser and you can view the specific movies and shows available.
5. Tap the title you want to watch.
That should be you and the next while of Netflix chilling, sorted.
