Former Springbok and current Cheetahs rugby player, Jacques Potgieter, says his Instagram account was hacked on Friday.
That was in response to now-deleted Instagram posts and stories that claimed he had been behaving out of line.
The posts alleged that he had cheated on his wife, actress Angelique Gerber, to whom he has been married for five years, and shares three young children.
Lee-Ann Liebenberg and Nicky Van Der Walt’s Instagram saga recently might have set the trend.
Anyway, Potgieter’s now-deleted Instagram Stories post wedged two claims – that the rugby player asked women students for NSFW photos and cheated on his wife – between some classic SA swear words.
A Twitter user managed to screenshot the damage before it was deleted:
Additionally, per Channel24, a now-deleted Instagram post also published on Jacques’ Instagram account alleged that he had cheated on his wife with women students at hangouts in Bloemfontein:
The caption was accompanied by an edited photo from the couple’s wedding day, showing an arrow pointed towards Jacques’ face with a vulgar slang word.
Based on the above screenshot, we can probably guess what vulgar slang word that was.
Jacques told Channel24 that “all my accounts were hacked,” when asked for comment via an Instagram DM:
Addressing his followers in an Instagram Stories post, doubling down on the fact that his account was breached by someone “without a brain,” the former Bulls rugby player assured fans that the accusations made in the posts were false.
It was also reported that shortly after these posts, Angelique’s Instagram Stories said “the truth always comes out” in the same font and style.
This could have been a big clue, but Gerber later issued an apology on Saturday:
